The Cheaters (Al-Mutaffifeen)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Woe to Al-Mutaffifin [those who give less in measure and weight (decrease the rights of others)], 1 who demand of other people full measure for themselves, 2 but who, when they measure or weigh for others, give less than their due. 3 Do not these think that they shall be raised again 4 For a Great Day? 5 A Day whereon mankind shall stand before the Lord of the worlds? 6 No indeed! Verily the deeds of the wicked are in the Record locked up in the prison-house! 7 And what will explain to thee what Sijjin is? 8 A record [indelibly] inscribed! 9 Woe, then, to those that give the lie, 10 Who call the Day of judgement a lie! 11 and none cries lies to it but every guilty aggressor. 12 When you recite Our verses to him, he says, "Stories of earlier men!" 13 No! Rather, the stain has covered their hearts of that which they were earning. 14 No indeed! On that Day they will be screened off from seeing their Lord, 15 They will suffer the heat of fire 16 and be told: "This is the [very thing] to which you were wont to give the lie!" 17 By no means! Verily the record of the virtuous shall be in 'Illiyun. 18 And what could make thee conceive what that mode most lofty will be? 19 a written record, 20 To which bear witness those Nearest (to Allah). 21 Verily the virtuous shall be in Delight, 22 seated on couches and gazing around in wonder. 23 You will recognize in their faces the brightness of bliss. 24 They will be served the choicest wine, sealed 25 whose seal is musk – so let all aspirants aspire after that – 26 And the admixture of it is a water of Tasnim, 27 a fountain at which the chosen ones shall drink. 28 The wicked used to laugh at the believers -- 29 And, when they passed them, to wink at each other, 30 And when they returned to their own followers they returned exulting. 31 and whenever they see those [who believe,] they say: "Behold, these [people] have indeed gone astray!" 32 No one has appointed them to watch over the believers. 33 This day it is those who believe who have the laugh of disbelievers, 34 On thrones, they will look. 35 Have those who deny the truth [not] been paid back for their deeds? 36
