And recite to them the story of Ibrahim (Abraham). 69 [how it was] when he asked his father and his people, "What is it that you worship?" 70 They said: We worship idols, so we shall be their votaries. 71 He asked them, "Can the idols hear you when you pray to them 72 or do they profit you, or harm?' 73 They said: "No. But we found our fathers doing so." 74 He said: 'Have you considered what you worship, 75 you and those ancient forebears of yours? 76 They are enemies to me except the Lord of all the Worlds 77 Who created me, and He doth guide me, 78 "Who gives me food and drink, 79 And when I sicken, then He healeth me. 80 Who will cause me to die and then will again restore me to life; 81 And who I aspire that He will forgive me my sin on the Day of Recompense." 82 My Lord! bestow on me wisdom and join me with the righteous. 83 And appoint for me an honourable mention among the posterity 84 And put me among the inheritors of Paradise. 85 and forgive my father; for he is one of the misguided; 86 Degrade me not upon the day when they are raised up, 87 the Day when wealth and sons will be of no avail, 88 Except him who comes to Allah with a heart free (from evil). 89 And Paradise will be brought near to the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2). 90 and the Fire will be uncovered for those who strayed, 91 and they will be asked: "Where now is all that you were wont to worship 92 besides God? Can they help you or even help themselves?" 93 And they will be pitched into it, they and the perverse 94 And the hosts of Iblis all together. 95 They will say while contending therein, 96 By Allah, we have indeed been in an error manifest. 97 when we deemed you [false deities] equal to the Sustainer of all the worlds 98 And none led us astray except the culprits. 99 and now we have none to intercede on our behalf, 100 “Nor a caring friend.” 101 Oh, that we had another turn (on earth), that we might be of the believers! 102 Verily there is a sign in this, but many of them do not believe. 103 Surely thy Lord, He is the All-mighty, the All-compassionate. 104
