The News (Al-Naba')
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Concerning which they differ. 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth an even expanse? 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 and made the night [its] cloak 10 And made the day for livelihood 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains will be moved – they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 for the insolent a resort, 22 therein to tarry for ages, 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 Except hot boiling water and hot pus discharged from the people of hell. 25 Recompense fitted! 26 They did not expect such a Judgment 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
