He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 Yet you pay attention 5 To him you give attention. 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 And as to him who comes to you striving hard, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you ignore him. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and purified. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 then, when He wills, He raises him. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We broke open the earth, splitting [it with sprouts], 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 And olives and palms 29 And gardens of dense shrubbery 30 and fruit and pastures, 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the Shout cometh 33 On that day man will run away from his brother. 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 Every man that day will have concern enough to make him heedless (of others). 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
