The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) 1 and you are a lodger in this country. 2 And the begetter and that which he begat, 3 Verily We have created man into toil and struggle. 4 Does He think that no one will ever have control over him? 5 saying, 'I have consumed wealth abundant'? 6 Does he then think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 and a tongue, and two lips, 9 And did We not show him the two highroads (of good and evil)? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 How will you comprehend what the Steep ascent is? -- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 an orphaned relative 15 or to a needy person in distress; 16 Then he is of those who believe and charge one another to show patience, and charge one another to show compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 But those who reject Our Signs, they are the (unhappy) Companions of the Left Hand. 19 The Fire will be shut over them (i.e. they will be enveloped by the Fire without any opening or window or outlet. 20
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
