۞ Surely We had bestowed wisdom upon Abraham even earlier, and We knew him well. 51 Recall, when he said to his father and his people: "What are these images to which you are devoutly clinging?" 52 They said: we found our fathers the worshippers thereof. 53 He said: assuredly ye, ye and your fathers, have been in error manifest. 54 They said: "Are you speaking in earnest, or only jesting?" 55 He answered: "Nay, but your [true] Sustainer is the Sustainer of the heavens and the earth - He who has brought them into being: and I am one of those who bear witness to this [truth]!" 56 And by Allah I shall surely devise a plot against your idols after ye turned away backward. 57 He shattered them all, except the biggest among them, that perhaps they may question it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 Some among them said, “We heard a youth speak ill of them – the one called Ibrahim.” 60 They said, “Therefore bring him in front of the people, perhaps they may testify.” 61 They said: Have you done this to our gods, O Ibrahim? 62 [Ibrahim (Abraham)] said: "Nay, this one, the biggest of them (idols) did it. Ask them, if they can speak!" 63 Then they turned to one another and said, "It is you yourselves who are in the wrong," 64 And they were utterly confounded, and they said: Well thou knowest that these speak not. 65 He said, "Then do you worship instead of Allah that which does not benefit you at all or harm you? 66 Shame on you and on that you worship other than Allah! Have you no understanding' 67 They said: "Burn him, and come to the support of your gods, if you are going to do anything." 68 Allah said, "O fire, be coolness and safety upon Abraham." 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We rescued him and Lot (and brought them) to the land which We have blessed for (all) peoples. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and Jacob as an additional gift, making each of them righteous. 72 And We made them leaders to guide (the people) by Our command; and We inspired them to perform good deeds and observe their moral obligations and pay the zakat; and they obeyed Us. 73 And to Lot We gave judgement and knowledge, and We saved him from the city that was committing wicked deeds. Indeed, they were a people of evil, defiantly disobedient. 74 whereas him We admitted unto Our grace: for, behold, he was among the righteous. 75
