Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. 1 The perspicuous Book is witness 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 By a command from Us – indeed it is We Who send. 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day whereon We assault them with the greatest assault, verily We shall take vengeance. 16 ۞ We had certainly tested the people of the Pharaoh before them to whom a noble Messengers had come, saying, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And [saying], "Be not haughty with Allah. Indeed, I have come to you with clear authority. 19 "For me, I have sought safety with my Lord and your Lord, against your injuring me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Moses addressed his Lord, saying, "Lord, these people are sinners". 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and cornfields and splendid buildings, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
