He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came unto him a blind man. 2 But what could tell thee but that perchance he might grow (in spiritual understanding)?- 3 Or become reminded so that the reminder should profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 To him you attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And he who comes to thee eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 you pay him no heed. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let the human being think about (how We produce) his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 Then We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 mother, father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Dust shall cover them 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
