The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the sky bursts open, 1 and gives ear to its Lord, and is fitly disposed; 2 And when the earth shall be stretched forth. 3 And throws out whatever it contains and is empty, 4 And has responded to its Lord and was obligated [to do so] - 5 [then,] O man - thou [that] hast, verily, been toiling towards thy Sustainer in painful toil - then shalt thou meet Him! 6 Then as to him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 He truly will receive an easy reckoning 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 And as to him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Will pray for death, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 Surely he was (erstwhile) joyful among his followers. 13 and surely thought he would never return (to his Lord). 14 Yea! surely his Lord does ever see him. 15 I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 Ye shall surely travel from stage to stage. 19 What aileth them then, that they believe not, 20 and when the Qur'an is recited to them, they do not prostrate themselves? ۩ 21 In fact the unbelievers disavow. 22 But God knows what they harbour in their breasts. 23 (Muhammad), tell them that they will all suffer a painful torment 24 except for those who believe and do good deeds. Theirs shall be an unending reward. 25
