The Night (Al-Layl)
21 verses, revealed in Mecca after The All High (Al-A'alaa) before Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 and the day in splendour 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 That your endeavour is for different ends. 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and confirms the reward most fair, 6 We will pave his way to ease. 7 And as for him who stinteth and is heedless, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; 10 And what will his wealth avail him when he falls? 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And to Us belong the End and the Beginning. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones 15 Who denied (the truth) and turned away. 16 But the God-fearing shall be kept away from it, 17 [He] who gives [from] his wealth to purify himself 18 and confers no favour on any man for recompense, 19 only seeking the Face of his Lord the Most High; 20 Will surely be gratified. 21
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
