The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Rise up and warn! 2 And your Lord (Allah) magnify! 3 And thine raiment purify. 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not favour others in order to receive more. 6 Exercise patience to please your Lord. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 for the unbelievers not easy. 10 Leave Me Alone (to deal) with whom I created Alone (without any means, i.e. Al-Walid bin Al-Mughirah Al-Makhzumi)! 11 And then granted him resources in abundance. 12 And children to be by his side! 13 And for whom I smoothed everything. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 and then he frowns and glares, 22 then turned back, and swelling-up with pride, 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 Naught is this but the word of Man. 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It does not allow to live, and neither leaves [to die,] 28 scorching the flesh; 29 Over it are Nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire, and their number have We made to be a stumbling-block for those who disbelieve; that those to whom the Scripture hath been given may have certainty, and that believers may increase in faith; and that those to whom the Scripture hath been given and believers may not doubt; and that those in whose hearts there is disease, and disbelievers, may say: What meaneth Allah by this similitude? Thus Allah sendeth astray whom He will, and whom He will He guideth. None knoweth the hosts of thy Lord save Him. This is naught else than a Reminder unto mortals. 31
