The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And hearkens to its Lord and is dutiful, 2 when the earth is stretched out 3 And has cast out all that was in it and became empty, 4 and obeys its Lord as it must, 5 O human, you are working hard towards your Lord and you will meet Him. 6 Then as for him who is given his book in his right hand, 7 will be easy, 8 And will return to his people full of joy. 9 But he who is given the Record behind his back, 10 he will in time pray for utter destruction: 11 But will be roasted in the fire. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 thinking he would never revert (to Us). 14 Why not? His Lord was always watching him. 15 So I swear by the afterglow of sunset; 16 by the night and all that it envelops; 17 or by the moon when it is full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 So, wherefore do they not believe? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 Yet God has full knowledge of what they conceal [in their hearts]. 23 Hence, give them the tiding of grievous suffering [in the life to come] 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
