Some of the Pharaoh's nobles considered him to be no more than a skillful magician 109 "He wants to get you out of your land, so what do you advise?" 110 They said, 'Put him and his brother off a while, and send among the cities musterers, 111 to summon every wellversed sorcerer to you' 112 And the sorcerers came to Pharaoh, saying, 'We shall surely have a wage, if we should be the victors?' 113 'Yes' he answered, 'and you will be among those near' 114 They said: "O Moses! wilt thou throw (first), or shall we have the (first) throw?" 115 He said: cast ye. Then when they cast down, they enchanted the eyes of the people, and terrified them and brought mighty magic to bear. 116 And We revealed to Musa, saying: Cast your rod; then lo! it devoured the lies they told. 117 ۞ So the truth was established, and what they did became null. 118 Thus were they there defeated and brought low. 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 saying: 'We believe in the Lord of the universe, 121 “The Lord of Moosa and Haroon.” 122 Fir'awn said: believed ye in him ere I have given you leave? Verily this is a plot ye have plotted in the city that ye may drive forth the people thereof. So presently ye shall know. 123 I shall cut off your hands and feet on the opposite sides, and then crucify you all.' 124 They said: "For us, We are but sent back unto our Lord: 125 “And what did you dislike in us, except that we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Pour (bestow abundantly) patience on us, and bestow us death as Muslims.” 126
