Commemorate Abraham in the Book: He was upright, a prophet. 41 when he spoke [thus] unto his father: "O my father! Why dost thou worship something that neither hears nor sees and can be of no avail whatever to thee? 42 Father, a knowledge that has not reached you has come to me. So follow me that I may guide you to a Straight Way. 43 Why do you worship Satan, O father? Verily Satan was disobedient to Ar-Rahman. 44 O My father! verily I fear that there may touch thee a torment from the Compassionate so that thou become to the Satan a companion. 45 [His father] said, "Have you no desire for my gods, O Abraham? If you do not desist, I will surely stone you, so avoid me a prolonged time." 46 He answered: "Peace be on you. I will seek forgiveness of my Lord for you. He has been gracious to me. 47 "And I will turn away from you (all) and from those whom ye invoke besides Allah: I will call on my Lord: perhaps, by my prayer to my Lord, I shall be not unblest." 48 So when he withdrew from them and what they worshipped besides Allah, We gave to him Ishaq and Yaqoub, and each one of them We made a prophet. 49 And We gave them of Our Mercy (a good provision in plenty), and We granted them honour on the tongues (of all the nations, i.e. everybody remembers them with a good praise). 50
