And recall what time We said to the angels: prostrate yourselves before Adam. They fell prostrate, but Iblis did not; he refused. 116 We therefore said, “O Adam, he is your and your wife’s enemy, so may he not get you both out from heaven, so you then fall into hardship.” 117 In Paradise you will experience no hunger, nakedness, 118 And indeed, you will not be thirsty therein or be hot from the sun." 119 But then Satan tempted him by saying: "O Adam, should I show you the tree of immortality, and a kingdom that will never know any wane?" 120 And Adam and his wife ate of it, and their private parts became apparent to them, and they began to fasten over themselves from the leaves of Paradise. And Adam disobeyed his Lord and erred. 121 Thereafter, [however,] his Sustainer elected him [for His grace,] and accepted his repentance, and bestowed His guidance upon him, 122 saying: "Down with you all from this [state of innocence, and be henceforth] enemies unto one another! None the less, there shall most certainly come unto you guidance from Me: and he who follows My guidance will not go astray, and neither will he be unhappy. 123 but whosoever turns away from My remembrance, his life shall be narrow and on the Day of Resurrection We shall raise him blind' 124 He will ask: "O Lord, why have you raised me blind when I was able to see?" 125 He (Allah) will say: 'It is so, Our verses came to you and you forgot them. So this Day you are forgotten' 126 And thus do We recompense him who transgresses beyond bounds and believes not in the Signs of his Lord: and the Penalty of the Hereafter is far more grievous and more enduring. 127 Did they not find any guidance in the fact that We destroyed many nations in whose ruined dwelling-places they now walk about? Surely there are many Signs in them for people endowed with wisdom. 128
