Thamood cried lies to the Envoys 141 When their brother Salih said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 142 I am for you an honest Messenger. 143 Therefore guard against (the punishment of) Allah and obey me: 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 “Will you be left peacefully in these favours over here?” 146 amidst the gardens, springs, 147 “And fields and palm-trees, with delicate tendrils?” 148 and that you will [always be able to] hew dwellings out of the mountains with [the same] great skill?" 149 So fear you God, and obey you me; 150 and obey not the commandment of the prodigal 151 "Who make mischief in the land, and reform not." 152 They said: Thou art but one of the bewitched; 153 Thou art but a mortal like us. So bring some token if thou art of the truthful. 154 He said: 'Here is a shecamel. She shall have her share of water as you have yours on an appointed day. 155 so do her no harm, or the punishment of an awful day will befall you." 156 But they killed her, and then they became regretful. 157 So the chastisement seized them. Surely there is a Sign in this, but most of them would not believe. 158 Your Lord, He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 159
