Therefore proclaim thou the praises (of thy Lord): for by the Grace of thy Lord, thou art no (vulgar) soothsayer, nor art thou one possessed. 29 Or do they say: “He is a poet for whom we await an adverse turn of fortune.” 30 Say thou: wait verily I am, with you, among the waiters. 31 Is it that their faculties of understanding urge them to this, or are they but a people transgressing beyond bounds? 32 Or say they: he hath fabricated it: aye they will not believe. 33 Let them produce a phrase like it, if what they say is true! 34 Were they created out of nothing, or are they their own creators? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! they have no certainty. 36 Or, are the treasures of your Lord in their keeping? Or, are they the controllers? 37 Or have they a ladder by which they could [ascend to ultimate truths and] listen [to what is beyond the reach of human perception]? Let, then, any of them who have listened [to it] produce a manifest proof [of his knowledge]! 38 What! The daughters for Him, and the sons for you? 39 Or do you demand any wages from them so that they are burdened with expense? 40 Or that the Ghaib (unseen) is with them, and they write it down? 41 Or, do they desire to outwit? The unbelievers are the outwitted. 42 Or have they a god, other than God? Glory be to God, above that which they associate! 43 AND YET, if they [who refuse to see the truth] were to see part of the sky falling down, they would [only] say: "[It is but] a mass of clouds!" 44 So leave them till they encounter their Day in which they shall be thunderstruck. 45 The Day when their plotting will avail them nothing and no help shall be given them. 46 Truly, for those who do wrong there is a punishment besides that, though most of them do not know it. 47 So wait patiently (O Muhammad) for thy Lord's decree, for surely thou art in Our sight; and hymn the praise of thy Lord when thou uprisest, 48 and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars. 49
