The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 being on the higher horizon, 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division unfair! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
