The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Whereof do they question one another? 1 Of the mighty Announcement, 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 (What they think is certainly despicable!). They will soon come to know (the reality). 4 Again surely yes, they will soon come to know! 5 Have We not made the earth an expanse, 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And have made the night as a covering (through its darkness), 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and sent down heavy rains from the clouds 14 That We may bring forth thereby corn and herbs, 15 And dense gardens. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The day when the Trumpet will be blown you will therefore come forth in multitudes. 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 Neither coolness shall they taste therein nor any [thirst-quenching] drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 An appropriate recompense. 26 Surely they feared not the account, 27 and they cried loud lies to Our signs; 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
