The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Read (Prophet Muhammad) in the Name of your Lord who created, 1 Created man from an embryo; 2 Read! Your Lord is the Most Generous, 3 who has taught [man] the use of the pen 4 Teacheth man that which he knew not. 5 Yet man behaves arrogantly, 6 because he thinks that he is independent. 7 Surely unto thy Lord is the Returning. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 a servant of Ours from prayer? 10 Have you seen if he is upon guidance 11 Or enjoins righteousness? 12 Tell me if he (the disbeliever, Abu Jahl) denies (the truth, i.e. this Quran), and turns away? 13 Knows he not that Allah does see (what he does)? 14 No! If he does not desist, We will surely drag him by the forelock - 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 Nay! obey him not, and make obeisance and draw nigh (to Allah). ۩ 19
