Thamud (people also) belied the warnings. 23 They said: 'Are we to follow a mortal who is one of us? Then indeed, we would surely be in error and insane. 24 Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar." 25 Tomorrow they will come to know, who is the liar, the insolent one! 26 Indeed, We are sending the she-camel as trial for them, so watch them and be patient. 27 And declare thou unto them that water hath been divided between them; every drinking shall be by turns. 28 But they called to their companion, and he took a sword in hand, and hamstrung (her). 29 How (great) was then My punishment and My warning! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 Indeed, We have made the Quran easy to learn lessons from. Is there anyone who would receive admonition? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warnings. 33 Verily We! We sent upon them a gravel-storm save the household of Lut; them We delivered at early dawn. 34 As favor from us. Thus do We reward he who is grateful. 35 And indeed he had warned them of Our seizure – in response they doubted the warnings. 36 And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 37 and early in the morning the punishment decreed overtook them -- 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 40
