The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 whereon they are at variance. 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Nay! Nay! they shall soon know. 5 Have We not made the earth as a cradle 6 And the mountains as pegs? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 And made the night as clothing 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 And made [therein] a burning lamp 13 and have sent down out of the rainclouds water cascading 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Indeed, the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 and the mountains will be set in motion and become a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will abide therein for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and pus 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial. 28 And everything We have recorded in a book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30

عند قراءة القرآن الملون في وضعية اللغة العربية المرسومة بالأحرف الإنجليزية، قد لا تلاحظ وجود منظومة برمجية مصممة لمطابقة متطلبات علامات الوقف في النص العربي الأصلي. فكما تعلم، يحتوي القرآن على خمسة أنواع رئيسية من علامات الوقف. (1) وقف لازم، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي نقطة وقف. (2) وقف جائز مع الوقف أولى، حيث يستخدم الرسم الإنجليزي فاصلة قد تظهر باحتمال الثلثين. When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
