The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THE SKY is split asunder, 1 hearing and obeying its Lord, as it must do; 2 And when the earth is spread out 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O man, indeed you have to surely run towards your Lord, and to meet him. 6 Then, he who is given his Book in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But as for him whose record shall be given to him behind his back; 10 He shall call for perdition, 11 And will go into the blazing fire. 12 He used to live joyfully among his people, 13 Verily he imagined that he would not be back. 14 Yes indeed; his Lord had sight of him. 15 BUT NAY! I call to witness the sunset's [fleeting] afterglow, 16 And by oath of the night and all that gathers in it. 17 by the moon, in its fullness 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What then is the matter with them, that they believe not?- 20 and when the Koran is recited to them that they do not prostrate! ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 and God knows very well what they are secreting. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 except the righteously striving believers, who will receive a never-ending reward. 25
