And whatever affliction befalls you, it is on account of what your hands have wrought, and (yet) He pardons most (of your faults). 30 You cannot challenge God on earth and you will have no one besides Him as your guardian or helper. 31 Ships sailing in the ocean like ensigns are a sign of His. 32 If He wills, He can calm the winds so the ships remain still on the sea surface; indeed in this are signs for every greatly enduring, grateful person. 33 Or He can ruin them due to peoples’ sins and He can forgive a great deal. 34 And for those who dispute regarding Our signs to realise; that they do not have a place to escape to. 35 Now whatever ye have been given is but a passing comfort for the life of the world, and that which Allah hath is better and more lasting for those who believe and put their trust in their Lord, 36 who eschew grave sins and shameful deeds, and whenever they are angry, forgive; 37 those who answer their Lord, establish the prayers, and their affairs are by consultation; who spend of that which We have given them, 38 who, when they are attacked, defend themselves. 39 The guerdon of an ill-deed is an ill the like thereof. But whosoever pardoneth and amendeth, his wage is the affair of Allah. Lo! He loveth not wrong-doers. 40 And whosoever vindicateth himself after wrong done to him; these! against them there is no way of blame. 41 The blame is only against those who oppress men and wrong-doing and insolently transgress beyond bounds through the land, defying right and justice: for such there will be a penalty grievous. 42 And whosoever forbeareth and forgiveth - that verily is of the firmness of affairs. 43
