Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 as a mercy (for the human being) from your Lord. Your Lord is All-hearing and All-knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He: It is He Who gives life and gives death,- The Lord and Cherisher to you and your earliest ancestors. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 covering the people; this is a painful chastisement. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can there be for them an admonition (at the time when the torment has reached them), when a Messenger explaining things clearly has already come to them. 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ Already before them We tried the people of Pharaoh, and a noble Messenger came unto them, 17 Who said, “Give the bondmen of Allah into my custody; I am indeed a trustworthy Noble Messenger for you.” 18 "And exalt not (yourselves) against Allah. Truly, I have come to you with a manifest authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 (But they were aggressive), so he [Musa (Moses)] called upon his Lord (saying): "These are indeed the people who are Mujrimun (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners, criminals, etc.)." 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And cornfields and goodly positions. 26 And goodly things wherein they rejoiced; 27 Thus. And We caused to inherit it another people. 28 Then neither the sky shed tears over them nor the earth. They were granted no respite. 29
