The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
A requester seeks the punishment that will take place – 1 which will inevitably seize the disbelievers. 2 (A punishment) from Allah, the Owner of the Elevated Passages. 3 The angels and the Ruh [Jibrael (Gabriel)] ascend to Him in a Day the measure whereof is fifty thousand years, 4 Therefore do thou hold Patience,- a Patience of beautiful (contentment). 5 They see it [the Day of Judgement] to be far off, 6 but, We see it as near! 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 And the mountains shall be as tufts of wool 9 And no friend will ask of a friend, 10 (Though) they shall be made to see each other. The guilty one would fain redeem himself from the chastisement of that day by (sacrificing) his children, 11 his wife, his brother, 12 His kindred who sheltered him, 13 and all the people of the earth, if that could deliver him. 14 By no means! For the raging flames of the fire 15 Taking away (burning completely) the head skin! 16 It calls out to him who reverted and turned away. 17 And masseth and then hoardeth. 18 ۞ Verily man is formed impatient. 19 When evil touches him, impatient, 20 And when good toucheth him he is begrudging. 21 Except those who pray, 22 and are constant in their Prayer; 23 And those within whose wealth is a known right 24 for the beggar and the outcast, 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 And those who are fearful of their Lord's doom - 27 the punishment of their Lord is not something for them to feel secure of, 28 and who are mindful of their chastity, 29 Save in regard to their spouses or those whom their right hands own; so verily they are not blameworthy 30 (but whoso seeks after more than that, they are the transgressors), 31 and who preserve their trusts and their covenant, 32 and those who stand by their testimony 33 and who observe their prayers. 34 Those shall be in gardens, honored. 35
