The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ What do they quarrel about? 1 Is it about the awesome tiding 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs (to anchor the earth)? 7 and created you in pairs (as men and women), 8 And made your sleep a rest. 9 And We have made the night a covering. 10 And have made the day for livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And We send down from the clouds water pouring forth abundantly, 14 That We may produce therewith corn and vegetables, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 Hell will lie in wait (for its prey). 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 where they shall remain for ages, 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save boiling water and a paralysing cold: 25 Reward proportioned (to their evil deeds). 26 Indeed, they did not hope for a Reckoning, 27 and roundly denied Our Signs as false. 28 However, We have recorded everything in a book. 29 [And so We shall say:] "Taste, then, [the fruit of your evil doings,] for now We shall bestow on you nothing but more and more suffering!" 30
