The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the night when it covers 1 by the day when it appears radiant, 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 your striving is indeed to different ends! 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And accepts the best, 6 We shall ease the way of fortune for him. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And denies the best [reward], 9 So We will very soon provide him hardship. 10 His riches will not save him when he perisheth. 11 Lo! Ours it is (to give) the guidance 12 and, behold, Ours is [the dominion over] the life to come as well as [over] this earlier part [of your life]: 13 I have now warned you of a Blazing Fire, 14 None shall roast therein but the most wretched, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 And avoid it shall the most pious, 17 one who gives his wealth to become purified, 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 He desires only to please his Lord, the Supreme. 20 He will surely be well-pleased (with him). 21
