Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 By the ten nights (i.e. the first ten days of the month of Dhul-Hijjah). 2 The multiple and the one, 3 And by the night when it departeth, 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad - 6 [With] Iram - who had lofty pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 Who committed inordinacy in the cities, 11 And heaped therein mischief (on mischief). 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Lo! thy Lord is ever watchful. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord trieth him by honouring him, and is gracious unto him, he saith: My Lord honoureth me. 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, but ye (for your part) honour not the orphan 17 And do not urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 And love wealth with abounding love. 20 When the earth is crushed into small pieces 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 For, none can make suffer as He will make suffer [the sinners] on that Day, 25 And no one shall bind with (anything like) His binding. 26 O satisfied soul, 27 "Come back thou to thy Lord,- well pleased (thyself), and well-pleasing unto Him! 28 And enter among My [righteous] servants 29 into My Paradise. 30
