The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Their brother Hud said to them, "Will you not fear God? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 So fear God and listen to me. 126 I seek of you no reward for this; my reward is with none but the Lord of the Universe. 127 "Do you build high palaces on every high place, while you do not live in them? 128 And take ye for yourselves castles that haply ye may abide. 129 and when you strike you strike like tyrants? 130 "Be, then, conscious of God and pay heed unto me: 131 and [thus] be conscious of Him who has [so] amply provided you with all [the good] that you might think of 132 "Freely has He bestowed on you cattle and sons,- 133 “And with gardens and water-springs.” 134 "Truly I fear for you the Penalty of a Great Day." 135 They said: "It is the same to us if you warn us or do not warn. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 “And we will not be punished.” 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 And lo! thy Lord, He is indeed the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
