The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 and a lesser number from the later generations. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 No after-ache will they receive therefrom, nor will they suffer intoxication: 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 They will live amid the thornless lot trees 28 Among Talh (banana-trees) with fruits piled one above another, 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and abundant fruit, 32 never-ending and unrestricted, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
