Incontestable (Al-Haaqqah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ The sure calamity! 1 And what is that indubitable event? 2 And what can make you know what is the Inevitable Reality? 3 The tribes of Thamud and 'Ad denied that disaster would strike them: 4 So destroyed were the Thamud by a storm of thunder and lightning; 5 and as for Ad, they were destroyed by a wind clamorous, 6 violent that He compelled against them seven nights and eight days, uninterruptedly, and thou mightest see the people laid prostrate in it as if they were the stumps of fallen down palm-trees. 7 Then do you see of them any remains? 8 And Firon and those before him and the overthrown cities continuously committed sins. 9 And they disobeyed their Lord's Messenger, so He punished them with a strong punishment. 10 When the flood rose high and covered the whole land, We carried you in the Ark. 11 That We might make it a Message unto you, and that ears (that should hear the tale and) retain its memory should bear its (lessons) in remembrance. 12 When a single blow is blown on the Horn, 13 and the earth and the mountains are lifted up and then crushed with a single blow, 14 Then on that Day shall the (Great) Event befall, 15 The sky will cleave asunder on that day and fall to pieces. 16 And the angels will be on its sides, and eight will, that Day, bear the Throne of thy Lord above them. 17 On that day all of you will be brought forth, so none among you wishing to hide will be able to hide. 18 Then he that will be given his Record in his right hand will say: "Ah here! Read ye my Record! 19 Behold, I did know that [one day] I would have to face my account! 20 His shall be a pleasing life 21 in an exalted garden 22 with clusters of fruit within easy reach. 23 Eat and drink at ease for that which you have sent on before you in days past! 24 But whosoever gets his ledger in his left hand, will say: "Would that I were never given my ledger, 25 "And that I had never known, how my Account is? 26 O would that it had made an end (of me): 27 My wealth has not availed me, 28 There hath perished from me my authority. 29 [Thereupon the command will go forth:] "Lay hold of him, and shackle him, 30 And then expose him to hell-fire 31 And string him to a chain seventy cubits long. 32 He did not believe in Allah, the Great, 33 And urged not on the feeding of the wretched. 34 Today he has been left here friendless; 35 Nor any food except refuse, 36 Which none but sinners eat. 37
