Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O the One Wrapped in piety! (Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 Or a little more; and recite the Quran (aloud) in a slow, (pleasant tone and) style. 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Surely, getting up at night [for worship] is the most potent means of subduing the self and most suitable for the word [of prayer]. 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 And bear thou with patience whatsoever they say, and depart from them with a becoming departure. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Lo! with Us are heavy fetters and a raging fire, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 But Fir'aun (Pharaoh) disobeyed the Messenger [Musa (Moses)], so We seized him with a severe punishment. 16 If you persist in denying the truth how will you escape the Day that will turn the children's hair grey. 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This is a reminder. Let anyone who wants, seek guidance from his Lord. 19
