The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O you (Prophet Muhamad), the cloaked, 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 proclaim the greatness of your Lord, 3 And thine inner self purify! 4 And all abomination shun! 5 And show not favour, seeking wordly gain! 6 And for the sake of your Lord, patiently endure. 7 Then when the horn shall be blown, 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 And sons to be by his side!- 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 Yet he desireth that I should give more. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 and I shall constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 He planned and plotted. 18 and woe to him; how he plotted! 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 He looked (at others); 21 Then frowned he and scowled. 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: This is naught else than magic from of old; 24 This is naught but the word of a mortal. 25 Him shall I fling unto the burning. 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It neither spares, nor releases, 28 it scorches (even) the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
