Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the break of Day 1 by the Ten Nights, 2 And by the even and the odd (of all the creations of Allah). 3 And the night when it departeth, 4 Considering all this - could there be, to anyone endowed with reason, a [more] solemn evidence of the truth? 5 Hast thou not seen how thy Lord did with Ad, 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 the like of which has never been created in the land, 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 And the mighty Pharaoh 10 [It was they] who transgressed all bounds of equity all over their lands, 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 So your Lord poured on them different kinds of severe torment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me." 16 Nay! But you treat not the orphans with kindness and generosity (i.e. you neither treat them well, nor give them their exact right of inheritance)! 17 nor do you urge one another to feed the needy. 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you have a love of wealth which can never be satisfied. 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And when hell is brought that day – on that day will man reflect, but where is the time now to think? 23 He will say, “Alas – if only I had sent some good deeds ahead, during my lifetime!” 24 None punisheth as He will punish on that day! 25 None bindeth as He then will bind. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord well pleased with him and He will be pleased with you. 28 "Enter you, then, among My honoured slaves, 29 enter My Paradise! 30
