The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Of what ask they? 1 About the awesome tiding [of resurrection,] 2 whereupon they are at variance? 3 Nay, they will come to know! 4 Yes, indeed, before long they will learn all about it. 5 Have We not made the earth as a bed, 6 And the mountains as stakes? 7 We created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 and We appointed night for a garment, 10 And We made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And then sent down hard rain from the water bearing clouds. 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 And orchards full of trees and interlacing boughs. 16 Lo! the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven shall be opened, and it will become as gates, 19 And the mountains shall be moved away from their places and they will be as if they were a mirage. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 a goal for all who are wont to transgress the bounds of what is right! 22 there, they shall live for ages, 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 for a suitable recompense. 26 for they never expected to be called to account, 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 and everything We have numbered in a Book. 29 So taste (the fruit of what you sowed), for We shall add nothing but torment, 30
