He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him do you address yourself. 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And he fears, 9 to him thou payest no heed. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 Therefore let whoso will, keep it in remembrance. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm He creates him, and thereupon determines his nature, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 and then, whenever He wishes, He will raise him back to life. 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 and then We cleave the earth [with new growth,] cleaving it asunder, 26 Then We cause to grow therein the grain, 27 and vines and edible plants, 28 And olive and palm trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 Then when cometh the Deafening Cry 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 Mother and father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 o'erspread with darkness -- 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
