Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the dawn 1 and ten nights, 2 and the even and the odd, 3 and by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 The people of many-columned lram. 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 (Also consider how He dealt with) the Thamud, who carved their houses out of the rocks in the valley. 9 And Pharaoh, of the pegs (impaling his victims)? 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Therefore your Lord struck them hard with the means of punishment. 13 for, verily, thy Sustainer is ever on the watch! 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him by exalting him and bestowing His bounties upon him, he says: “My Lord has exalted me.” 15 But when He tests him by restricting his provision, he says: 'My Lord has humiliated me' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor do you urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And you devour (others') inheritance greedily, 19 And you harbour intense love for wealth. 20 No indeed! When the earth is crushed and ground to dust, 21 And your Lord comes and (also) the angels in ranks, 22 And Hell is brought near, that day will man remember, but of what avail will then remembering be? 23 He will say, "Oh, would that I had provided beforehand for my life!" 24 Wherefore on that Day none shall torment with His torment. 25 nor will any bind as He binds. 26 O the contented soul! 27 Return to your Lord, well-pleased (with him), well-pleasing (Him), 28 Join My worshipers and 29 yea, enter thou My paradise!" 30
