The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
READ in the name of thy Sustainer, who has created 1 Created man, out of a (mere) clot of congealed blood: 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 taught Man that he knew not. 5 Nay! man is most surely inordinate, 6 that he sees himself sufficed. 7 Lo! unto thy Lord is the return. 8 Have you seen the one who prohibits 9 a worshiper when he prays. 10 Have you thought, if he had been on guidance 11 Or enjoined guarding (against evil)? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 Let him beware! If he does not desist, We will drag him by the forelock -- 15 his lying, sinful forelock. 16 So let him summon his helpmates; 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
