a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a crowd of the later. 40 And the fellows on the left hand; how miserable shall the fellows on the left hand be! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 and under the shadow of black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 For that they were wont to be indulged, before that, in wealth (and luxury), 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 ever saying, 'What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be raised up? 47 "And also our forefathers?" 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 "All will surely be gathered together for appointed Meeting of a known Day. 50 Then you, the erring and the deniers, 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 "Then will ye fill your insides therewith, 53 And drinking on top of it from scalding water 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 This shall be their entertainment on the Day of Judgement. 56 It is We who have created you. Why then did you not testify to the Truth? 57 Do ye then see?- The (human Seed) that ye throw out,- 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It is We who have ordained death for all of you; and We cannot be prevented 60 That We may substitute others like unto you and produce you into that which ye know not. 61 You are well aware of the first creation; then, do you learn no lesson from it? 62 So what is your opinion regarding what you sow? 63 Is it you who cause them to grow or do We? 64 Had We wanted, We could have crushed it to bits and you would have been left to lament, 65 "We are ruined, 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you considered the water that you drink? 68 Is it you who brought it down from the clouds or is it We Who brought it down? 69 Did We will, We would make it bitter; so why are you not thankful? 70 Did you consider the fire which you kindle? 71 Produce ye the tree thereof, or are We the Producer? 72 We have made it a memorial (of Our handiwork), and an article of comfort and convenience for the denizens of deserts. 73 So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great. 74
