The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the great event, 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 again, no indeed; soon will they come to know. 5 Did We not make the earth a bed? 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We have created you in pairs (male and female, tall and short, good and bad, etc.). 8 And made sleep for you to rest, 9 And made the night as clothing 10 and the day as time for you to make a living? 11 And We have built above you seven firmaments, 12 And have kept a very bright lamp in it. 13 And from the wind-driven clouds We send down waters pouring in abundance, 14 That We may produce from it grain and vegetation, 15 And gardens dense and luxuriant. 16 Surely the Day of Decision is an appointed time, 17 the Day when the Trumpet shall be blown, and you will come forth in multitudes; 18 The heavens will be opened wide and turn into so many doors, 19 And the mountains will be moved they will therefore become like mirages. 20 Certainly Hell lies in wait, 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 In it shall they remain for a long time. 23 They will not feel cold nor taste any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 And rejected Our signs as lies. 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 'Taste! We shall increase you not save in chastisement.' 30
