He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 You never know. Perhaps he wanted to purify himself, 3 or take heed and derive benefit from [Our] warning? 4 But the self-sufficient, 5 to a rich man, 6 though you will not be questioned even if he never purifies himself. 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 [Carried] by the hands of messenger-angels, 15 Noble and righteous. 16 Perish the human! How unthankful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a drop of liquid; He created him and then set several measures for him. 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then gave him death, so had him put in the grave. 21 Then when He wills, He will resurrect him. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Let man consider his food: 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 And olive-trees and palm-trees 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 his wife and his children. 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Darkness will cover them, 41 those will be ones who denied the truth and were immersed in iniquity. 42
