In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you (Prophet Muhammad) wrapped, 1 Stand up for worship during the night, except for some part of it. 2 half the night, or a little less 3 Or add to it, and recite the Qur'an with measured recitation. 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Surely in the watches of the night the soul is most receptive and words more telling. 6 whereas by day a long chain of doings is thy portion. 7 And remember the name of your Lord and, leaving others, devote yourself solely to Him. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West; there is no god except Him. Take Him for your Guardian. 9 And patiently endure upon what the disbelievers say, and leave them for good. 10 Leave to Me those who belie, those who lead a life of pleasure, and bear with them yet a little while. 11 We have fetters (for them) and a blazing fire, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 on the Day the earth and mountains shall shake and the mountains crumble into shifting sand dunes. 14 Surely We have sent to you an Apostle, a witness against you, as We sent an apostle to Firon. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
