The News (Al-Naba')
40 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej) before The Snatchers (Al-Naze'aat)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Concerning what are they disputing? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 About which they differ? 3 Verily, they shall soon (come to) know! 4 Again, by no means! anon they shall know. 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And (have We not) created you in pairs, 8 And made your sleep [a means for] rest 9 The night a covering, 10 And the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And We have built above you seven strong (heavens), 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 and gardens luxuriant. 16 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time - 17 The Day when the Trumpet will be blown, and you shall come forth in crowds (groups); 18 And the heavens shall be opened as if there were doors, 19 And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage. 20 Surely the Hell is an ambush, 21 For the transgressors, a place of return, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 they shall taste in it no coolness, nor any pleasant drink 24 save boiling water and wash of the wounds; 25 a meet requital [for their sins]! 26 For that they used not to fear any account (for their deeds), 27 having given the lie to Our messages one and all: 28 And We have recorded everything in a book, 29 (They will be told), "Suffer, We shall only increase the torment for you". 30
