He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what would make you know that he would purify himself, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him you give attention. 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 And he fears, 9 You neglect. 10 No indeed; it is a Reminder 11 So whosoever willeth - let him be admonished therewlth. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 Exalted (in dignity), kept pure and holy, 14 [borne] by the hands of messengers 15 Who are noble, virtuous. 16 Woe to man! What hath made him reject Allah; 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 and then made the course of life easy for him, 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then when He pleases, He will raise him to life again. 22 By no means he performed not that which He had commanded him. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 [how it is] that We pour down water, pouring it down abundantly; 25 Then We split the earth properly. 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and green fodder 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder: 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 and his consort and his children; 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Faces on that Day shall be beaming, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 with darkness overspread: 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
God the Almighty always says the truth.
End of Surah: He Frowned ('Abasa). Sent down in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)

Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
