Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the odd and even (8th and 9th Dhil-hajj) 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there in that an oath for the mindful? 5 Have you not seen what your Lord did to the 'Ad 6 Iram of the pillars, 7 whose like has never been created in any other land. 8 And Thamood, who hewed out the rocks of the valley? 9 And with Firaun, who used to crucify. 10 Who terrorised the region, 11 and spread much corruption in the land. 12 Thy Lord unloosed on them a scourge of chastisement; 13 indeed, your Lord is ever watchful. 14 BUT AS FOR man, whenever his Sustainer tries him by His generosity and by letting him enjoy a life of ease, he says, "My Sustainer has been [justly] generous towards me"; 15 But when He trieth him, restricting his subsistence for him, then saith he (in despair), "My Lord hath humiliated me!" 16 No indeed; but you honour not the orphan, 17 and do not urge one another to feed the poor, 18 And ye devour heritages with devouring greed. 19 and you love wealth with boundless love! 20 Nay! When the earth is pounded to powder, 21 and your Lord comes with the angels, rank upon rank, 22 And the Hell on that Day shall be brought nigh. On that Day man shall remember, but how will remembrance avail him? 23 He will say: "Ah! Would that I had sent forth (good deeds) for (this) my (Future) Life!" 24 On that day the punishment of God and His detention will be unparalleled. 25 And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers]. 26 O soul that art at rest! 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 Enter thou My Garden! 30
