Light (Al-Noor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ [This is] a surah which We have sent down and made [that within it] obligatory and revealed therein verses of clear evidence that you might remember. 1 The adulteress and the adulterer – punish each one of them with a hundred lashes; and may you not have pity on them in the religion to Allah, if you believe in Allah and the Last Day; and a group of believers must witness their punishment. 2 The adulterer can marry no one but an adulteress or his partner (in the act), and the adulteress cannot marry any but an adulterer or her partner (in the act). This is forbidden the believers, 3 Those who defame chaste women and do not bring four witnesses should be punished with eighty lashes, and their testimony should not be accepted afterwards, for they are profligates, 4 except those who repent and reform themselves; Allah is Forgiving and Merciful. 5 And for those who launch a charge against their spouses, and have (in support) no evidence but their own,- their solitary evidence (can be received) if they bear witness four times (with an oath) by Allah that they are solemnly telling the truth; 6 And the fifth, that the curse of Allah be upon him if he be of the liars. 7 It shall avert from her the chastisement if she testify by God four times that he is of the liars, 8 And the fifth [oath will be] that the wrath of Allah be upon her if he was of the truthful. 9 But for God's bounty to you and His mercy and that God turns, and is All-wise -- 10
