a multitude of the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 As for the people on the left hand, how miserable they will be! 41 They will be in the midst of scorching wind and boiling water, 42 And a shade of black smoke, 43 Neither cool nor honorable. 44 and before that they lived at ease, 45 and persisted in heinous sins. 46 It was they who said, "Shall we be resurrected after we die and have turned into dust and bones? 47 and perhaps, too, our forebears of old?" 48 Say: "Verily, those of olden times and those of later times 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then shall you, O you who err and call it a lie! 51 shall eat the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 filling your bellies with it; 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 like a thirsty camel". 55 Such will be their welcome on the Day of Judgement. 56 We have created you, why do you not then assent? 57 Have you ever considered that [seed] which you emit? 58 did you create it or did We? 59 We have decreed Death to be your common lot, and We are not to be frustrated 60 In that We will change your likenesses and produce you in that [form] which you do not know. 61 And assuredly ye have fully known the first production wherefore heed ye not? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 Cause it ye to grow, or are We the Grower? 64 If We pleased, We should have certainly made it broken down into pieces, then would you begin to lament: 65 (Saying), "We are indeed left with debts (for nothing): 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Have you seen the water which you drink? 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We had so pleased, We could have made it bitter. So why would you not give thanks? 70 And have you seen the fire that you ignite? 71 Is it you that produce the trees for it, or are We the producers? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Therefor (O Muhammad), praise the name of thy Lord, the Tremendous. 74
