The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
O THOU [in thy solitude] enfolded! 1 Arise and deliver thy warning! 2 And proclaim the Purity of your Lord. 3 And your clothing purify 4 And all defilement shun! 5 And bestow not favour that thou mayest receive more. 6 But for your Lord be patient. 7 So when the Trumpet will be blown. 8 it will be a hard day 9 Far from easy for the disbelievers. 10 Leave Me (to deal) with him whom I created lonely, 11 And give him vast riches, 12 And children present [with him] 13 I made things smooth and easy for him, 14 After all that he desires that I should give more; 15 Never will he receive more. He has been hostile to Our revelations. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 For he had thought and calculated. 18 Perish he! How maliciously he devised! 19 May be then be accursed, how he plotted! 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled; 22 Then turned he away in pride 23 said, "This (the Quran) is nothing but magic, inherited from ancient magicians. 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I will cast him into Hell-fire 26 - Ah, what will convey unto thee what that burning is! - 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Over it are nineteen [powers]. 30 We have appointed only angels to be wardens of the Fire. We have specified their number only as a trial for those who are bent on denying the truth, so that those who were given the Book might gain in certainty, and those who believe might increase in faith -- and so that neither those who have been given the Scripture nor the believers might have any doubts, and that those sick at heart and those who deny the truth might ask, "What does God mean by this parable?" In this way, God lets go astray whom He wills, and guides whom He wills. And none knows the forces of your Lord but He. This is but a Reminder for man. 31
