He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ (The Prophet) frowned and turned away, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 To him you attend; 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 As for the one who comes to you earnestly (striving for guidance). 8 And whereas he fears, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (This Quran) is also recorded in honorable books, 13 lofty and pure, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Noble and dutiful. 16 Perish man! how ungrateful he is! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 and in the end He causes him to die and brings him to the grave; 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 How We poured down water in torrents, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 and the olive, and the palm, 29 And enclosed Gardens, dense with lofty trees, 30 And fruits and fodder,- 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
