He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED and turned away 1 when the blind came to him. 2 What made you think that he will not grow in virtue, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 As to one who regards Himself as self-sufficient, 5 Unto him thou payest regard. 6 And no blame is on you if he would not purify himself 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and in awe of God 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So let him who pleases mind it. 12 Contained in honoured pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 noble and most virtuous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 He will then send him to death and have him laid in the grave. 21 Then when He pleases, He will bring him back to life. 22 Nay, but [man] has never yet fulfilled what He has enjoined upon him! 23 Let man therefore consider the sources of his food. 24 We poured out the rains abundantly, 25 then We split the earth in fissures 26 to yield therein corn, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And olives and palms 29 And dense gardens, 30 and fruits and fodder 31 as provision for you and for your cattle to enjoy. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 his consort, his sons, 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 Some faces will on that Day be bright with happiness, 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And (many) faces on that day, on them shall be dust, 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Those, they are the unbelievers, the immoral. 42
